Starless Umbra is an exceptional RPG Maker game.

Just finished Starless Umbra version 6.02 and decided to write a review of it. Note that english isn't my native language and few grammar mistakes may turn up.

Story&characters

The story of Starless Umbra isn't exceptional but entertaining nonethless. I think that there was too many questions and before they were answered new ones rised making the story too confusing. But all these questions also drived to play the game more. And I hope that all our questions get their answers with becoming versions for they didn't yet.
Characters however are very well done. All playable characters have personality and backstory and antagonists were also interesting but they didn't get that much development as playable ones but that is only natural.

Music&sounds

Sounds were quite usual but they weren't irritating unlike in some games. And music! I must say that it fits greatly to scenes and places and is quite good too. I especially liked boss battle music and found myself humming it after playing a while.

9/10

Graphics

We can't expect better from RPG Maker game. They are nice and detailed and a lot of work has been put in mapping. Some graphics didn't fit too well together but that is common problem with RPG Maker games that use other than RTP graphics.

Gameplay

Gameplay is a big aspect of any game and Starless Umbra won't disappoint in that gategory. It has A LOT of minigames and puzzles and I can't imagine how much coding effort has been put in these. Puzzles aren't too easy but never irritating either. And even thought I don't usually bother myself with minigames I still tried all of these and they were well done except the horse escape that was too hard for me in normal mode and therefore I had to RESTART THE WHOLE GAME to choose easy mode and THAT was frustating (it would be better to choose difficulty for these minigames before you play them and reward those who manage to do them in harder mode). Oh and SU also features its own skill-learning system (or systems for there is two). You can either equip \"essences\" to learn magic or fuse \"dysona gems\" to your characters for them to be able to use different techniques. Magic uses your MP and techniques need special item \"sap\" for them to be of use. Sap can be bought from most shops.
Battles of SU are fast and even though that they are a little too easy in the beginning they provide some challenge and use of strategy later in the game.
Overall gameplay of SU is pretty solid.
