The Way write in crestfallen studios in google.
Also don't expect any rm2k games aside from maybe the way to compare to starless umbra because you will be dissapointed.

I can tell you a few good ones though:
Everlong http://www.nealien.com/Everlong/
A home far away http://rpgmaker.net/games/2226/
Demon Legacy http://rpgmaker.net/games/703/
Heros Realm http://rpgmaker.net/games/82/

EDIT:OOPS misread the post heh.As I said The Way is probably the only one.

My very first "game" of "Pikachu's Adventure" !! (lol, but its how i learned the program.. hooray for tutorials off of Don Miguel's site way back when)

I honestly don't know.. the only other 'decent' RPGMaker game ive played was Final Fantasy: Endless Nova. I bet there are lots in XP/VX that show tremendous potential, but its hard to really find stuff, most are incomplete demos, incomplete projects, etc.

It's really hard to stay focused.

Three the Hard Way. Mostly because the overall feel of the two is similar. The graphics (not as random in SU), battles (kinda), characters and anime-ishness are there, I enjoyed the puzzles in both immensely and both games' plots are indulging.

Also, the topic title wording is funny. XD

The Way is an extremely good game. It's pretty much THE rpg maker game to beat. SU may surpass it once it's done however. It's hard to say anything about the story in SU since there are still tons of questions left unanswered, but the custom movement engines and minigames in SU are more impressive than any other RPG maker game IMO.

Besides that though, the other top RPG maker games that come to mind are-

- A Blurred Line (which was never finished and probably never will be, but it's still absolutely amazing)

- Dhux's Scar (Which is pretty demented lol but has a really interesting battle system and some of the craziest plot twists I've ever heard of)

- Ascendance (Not much of the game has been finished yet, and I'm not sure if it ever will be, but it has the most amazing atmosphere of an rm2k3 game i've played or seen. It has great potential)

SU may surpass The Way once DHM finishes CH 9, but I feel pretty confident in saying that it will definitely happen once SUX comes out (haha, I still laugh when I read that title :D ). SU's already a good game though, it just needs a little more time to claim it's spot as the best rpg maker game.

This topic inspires me. 8)

It's a shame people rarely use 2k/3 still; the potential for atmosphere and customization in 2k/3 definitely exceeds VX/XP. (If you've played a VX/XP game, chances are it looks like a lot of other VX/XP games.)

Very few games stand out because for one person it's incredibly difficult to devote yourself to a single project. I don't think I would have had quite the positive reception I've had if I didn't continuously revise what's already there. My standards are always rising and as a programmer I always want to challenge myself.

Honestly games like The Way, ABL, TTHW, VSB, etc., are IMO created by people much more talented than myself. They have a great idea for a game and whip it out. For me, SU is only half-decent because I have a lot of devotion to the project and I'm always going back and fixing all my mistakes.

By now I think I've demonstrated that I can design some really cool minigames, puzzles, etc., and I can definitely create an engaging gameplay experience. SU's storyline is not to be neglected, though, and it's really a culmination of an adventure I've been revising since grade school. 8) If I can get my stuff together and up my presentation, I think you'll enjoy it.

So yes, many games compare and definitely surpass SU; though, I'd like to think I'm a pioneer for certain... algorithms. 8)

tl;dr the classics are f'n awesome, though maybe rough around the edges and slightly dated at times--though that's what makes them classics.

VX - sure, I can agree with, due to the rather limited mapping tileset issues and such. Its what turned me off when i first downloaded the trial. Though there is that contested debate about which is better, but overall, I prefer XP due to the tileset advantage. I feel its important enough to be "nitpicky" about it.

In the end, for XP and VX, it really depends on what you end up doing in terms of scripts, sure a lot of battle systems look the same, but that's no different for any of the programs. I mean heck, people can build MMOs with the proper knowledge.

I love 2003, a lot, but I found some pretty sick tilesets for XP that I may just see what I can do. I think this world map tipped the scales just so i can TRY something in XP, despite my somewhat fanboyish preference to 2003. I mean, in the end, this program ranks up there on my #1 favorite programs of all time, with AutoCAD as a close second. Just dont get me wrong, 2003 is currently my version of choice, but I am going to see what happens in XP.
http://www.rpg-palace.com/artists/xptiles/map.php (I personally find it very attractive, even if the mountains need some fixes. Click on a section for a 1:1 view)

I set XP on equal terms with 2003, even if 2003's database is a bit more broken down and fluid. I think it is an upgrade enough, that if i learn even a little bit of Ruby Game Scripting, then it would be pretty cool. Otherwise I'm pretty good at eventing just due to my 2000/2003 experience. That's why i used the term 'potential' because yeah, without heavy modifications, they all do look the same, same with every rpgmaker from 95 to now.

I've been replaying The Way, and I'm almost getting disappointed at a few things Lun should have fixed... sure, they're minimal, but why couldn't he make sure to call an event that turns off blinking before the jump anims? I'm still a bit confused at that. Even in my game the second I noticed I scrambled to stop any chance of that ever happening again. (Although this was all the way back in Rm2k days... so I'll cut him some slack!)

I guess sometimes the project just overwhelms you and you can't seem to find any mistakes though :P

Yeah that glitch bugged me a lot too. (Pardon the pun.)

The blinking system was probably an afterthought he never got around to actually testing, just implementing.

yeah, but what the hells the point of a blinking system.
To be honest it's alot more work then its worth,I mean having to stop and stuff with a switch and starting it again before and after every cutscene.
